Of course, this part doesn't really need a description, but this is game show history right here and it set the standard for all future game show millionaires. It still holds up as one of the greatest game show moments of all time, even to this day, over 8 years since it happened.

This is what a conspiracy theorist would really sound like. This was rigged from the start the IRS needed a million dollar so they sent in this guy. The show was also in on it cuz the two head guys of both parties are old buddies from the past. Now for the details he looked like he was struggling at each so-called difficult questions in the game, but managed to answer them without doubt. Even when he said he was not sure which of the two answers he was (according to him) struggling with.

Being highly intelligent hardly qualifies you as succesful on the 'career ladder', other important factors are education, drive, social/communication skills, time and opportunity, to name only a few. Without those intelligence doesn't mean much in terms of career and financial success. It is incredibly naive to think that intelligent people are entitled to awe-inspiring careers and financial rewards, and to presume someone isn't very smart when he doesn't have the career with the big bucks.

I'd hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I agree with you. It's good television to have someone win, producers know that. I think once in a while they give easier questions, including questions that are related to the contestants history and sometimes that contestant manages to take full use of that and win (though most of the time they fail even then). John really did give a lot of "You've got to be kidding me?"-looks. They 'dumbed' it down too much for him, I think.
