Robert Johnson - Crossroads (slowed down)

Second converted file in a series based on the idea that the original Robert Johnson recordings were sped up at some point in the production process, either intentionally or through some sort of operator error. Based on the findings of a certain website, I took offense to the fact that only snippets were available, and that they wanted to charge a hefty price for a CD of another man's music, merely slowed down. I slowed the recording down and lowered the pitch in Garageband, showing that any fool could have achieved the same results with free software and doesn't have to charge a dime for this possible revelatory key to the man's music to be available to the public.

Listen to this and decide for yourself, whether this relaxed, soulful, masterful pace and performance is closer to the original events in that Texas hotel room, or whether the warbling, manic version most are used to is what the man actually sounded like when he brought strangers to their knees in a puddle of their own tears.

I'm wondering if anyone has noticed how old this video is or read any of the previous comments by me, but that's ok. I WOULD take this video down, but I'm content with watching those of you who just HAVE TO let me know what an 'idiot' I am make asses of yourselves. This is a really old subject by now and yes, there are many, many other, better slowed versions. My favorite are the 100 different %ages mentioned, all different, all so sure THEY'RE correct. Yawn. STILL 11 likes to 1 dislike, too.

Way to slow. I reckon it's  5-10% maximum. The guy was in his twenties and skinny as you like - no way he had a voice that deep

@swisstony182 Look up Dax Riggs/Acid Bath. Listen to a song like 'God Machine'. That guy was 17 when that song was recorded, and I've met him - he's like 130 lbs, tops. Ronnie Van Zandt was like 5'6". Size has nothing to do with how your voice is structured - just ask Mike Tyson.

I'm not saying my rendition is quite accurate down to the last detail or anything like that, but age/size isn't a good enough argument, because there are plenty of small baritones and large altos out there.

Thanks for the recommendation. GB works all right for regular, 'tape machine' style recording and does some other things well, but their deep editing stuff isn't anything to write home about. I'll have to try out Audition, thanks!

My only comment is... If the recording don't sound the way he actually sounded live and in person, don't you think some one who was alive and heard him or butter yet played with him would have said at somepoint "thats not what robert johnson sounded like." I've only seen a haldf dozen interviews with Johnny Shines and other contemporaries of his and even his ex- girl willie mae who he mentions in Love in Vain and none said anything. End of story
