@huntpimedusest From an Air Force perspective: when you are in pilot training the IP (instructor pilot) will say "I have the aircraft," and the trainee says "you have the aircraft." It is a way of making it clear to the pilot and copilot who is currently in control of the plane. In this case, both pilots had flight controls so either could have flown the plane... the "my aircraft" - "your aircraft" is an abbreviated form of that expression and it would have been second nature to the 2 pilots.

@couden I did some research that's gonna make me look like an ass. Turns out that there's a 30 year old LAW that prohibits anything heavier than 100,000lbs from landing at Teterboro. To protect the area from traffic an noise. Runway length (7000ft) and width (150ft) are more than capable of handling the A320. In this video you can hear some dingbat at 3:20: "he can't land here", as if there's a choice. I never took the time to dig and find out why "he can't land here" until today. .

@couden But in an emergency circumstance, assuming they could have made it to Teterboro do you really think that he wouldn't have been able to land on that runway as opposed to landing in the Hudson?

@gokuelway I listened to the tapes from Teterboro and it turns out that the Airbus is too heavy for the runway there. Teterboro is more of a place for private jets and things of that nature- for folks who don't wanna try to land their $40 million Gulfstream amid the relentless commercial traffic at LGA.

@gokuelway weight classes probably

hmmm... I now know what destiny is... Capt. sully: What a view over hudson... moments later they land in Hudson!

Seriously?

@pdxtosca Nope...!! from someone that is in aviation... the pilot was absolutely brilliant... God was just a passenger on the flight!!
Awesome reconstruction!!

Teterboro's runway 1 is 2100 meters long which is the same as the runways at LGA so i don't know what that guy was talking about or why he said that.

At 3:14 you hear someone in the background at Teterboro, maybe a supervisor, saying "Airbus?" and 6 seconds later he says something like "you can't land that aircraft here!"

nice one! for the other viewers, if you are trying to hear this, you are best off with stereo speakers and listening to your right channel only.
