Considered the flagship game of the TurboGrafx 16 console, Bonk's Adventure is probably the most recognized game for the entire platform. But was it any good? Find out here in this review!

  • The TG16 version came out in 1990, while the NES version was late '93/early '94, so it was years later. It came out as the TG16 was fading out in the US. In Japan the PCE was doing much better then of course, but Hudson always had supported Nintendo despite designing and supporting the TG16, so it wasn't THAT odd really.

What's funny is that the port made to make the game more accessible to a wide audience is now rarer than the original game, in the US at least... NES Bonk is somewhat pricey!

  • I remember when Bonk came out on the NES - it was well after the SNES was out, so new NES titles seemed like second rate budget products. That and the general consensus with the video game buying public was that the NES version of Bonk was inferior to the TG16 version (which it probably was).

I think the biggest mistakes made with the TG16 overall was marketing. I remember being confused - WTF is a Turbo Chip?!? Are they CDs? They come in a CD case... etc. Everybody was confused.

  • great review Dommie! just wondering...what type of capture card do you use? this was the only game that I had that I liked on this system

  • Thanks. I currently use an elgato capture device (not many options for a Mac). I used to use a homemade one that I pieced together from an old VCR and an old digital camcorder. The homemade one worked well, but was sometimes sensitive to certain signals from some consoles.

Maybe, but not this time. The graphics in this game don't impress. Compare this to the early SNES games, it's night a day.

  • @17R3W The graphics are not subpar at all, The TG16 was known for large detailed characters and lots of colors, more colors then the SNES or Genesis could do. In many comparisons of games between the TG16/SNES/&Genesis the TG16 wins all the time

  • bonk looks like a caveman charlie brown, or that's how I saw it when it came out

  • Awesome game, Bonk 4eva

  • One thing that i remember about playing this was that the last couple of levels were a breeze to finish as apposed to the first couple. This game wasn't balanced very well.

  • Awesome song playing in the beginning.

  • Is there another song in the game?

  • 3:48 AND EATING ROCKS

  • My Mom had somehow scraped togother the money for this flying fartbox the Christmas it came out. I ran through Bonk's in one sitting and was pissed the fuck off cause the deal was i had to hand down my NES to my little cousin for the TG16.

    Ah......the memories!

  • i remeber the commercials...u are so rigth... when i was young, i wanted to play bonks adv, so bad...but i only knew one kid that had a tb 16......that suck. almost 20 yrs later... just got me 1......
