Disposable Razors - Learn more at http://www.instructables.com/id/How-t... - if you join instructables.com - please vote for this video (it's in the Contest!)

This video shows a simple method of extending the life of an ordinary disposable razor blade for months and months and months. Razor blades are very expensive and most people use the blade for a week or more until it gets dull, then you change it to a new one. By using this simple 'Blue Jean Sharpening Method' it will extend your blade life and receive a sharp and smooth shave for months and months.. I don't know how long it will work as I am still using a blade that is at least 6 mos old now and I'm still using it...

When you finish shaving... walk to your closet... pull out one leg of a pair of blue jeans... hold the end with one hand and with the other simply stoke the razor along the entire length of the blue jean for 10 to 20 strokes... I like 20... then switch directions... the threads of the jeans run in a diagonal so switching directions allows for an balanced approach to fine tuning the blade's edge.

This is similar to using a straight blade on a leather strap... this is cheap or free considering you have a pair of jeans!

It will take the fine nicks out of the blade and allow for you to keep the blade very sharp.

I also sharpen the blade 20 strokes ''before '' and ''after'' each shave just for good measure.

I also blow on the blade to knock off any water droplets and oxidation/rust is the biggest enemy of a sharp razor blade.

If you want, you can drop your razor 'blade down' into a cup of rubbing alcohol to store it until next use to eliminate any traces of water.

This should save you tons of money... at the time of this video Gillete Fusion 4 blade pack sales for $13.99 + tax. if you generally get one week's worth of use per blade this will run you $167.88 per year + tax! If you get 6 mos per blade then you can extend your use for two years. The math works out to $7.50 per year + tax (two blades at $3.50 per ea)

Hope you get lots of shaves'' for free!''

@ffinfinity1 yeah, I think it's going to be tough to get the underside of the blade. This is to extend the life not to make it as good as new forever. You have to use your own judgement about when you want to go back to a new blade. also the lubrication strip makes a huge difference in that does wear out

@LunaVanilla not sure why you had that result. You may just have super tough whiskerstry starting off with a new blade and maybe experiment with a few until you find 1 that works for you

W@OmgItzBirdy we've heard from many people that almost any disposable will work. But there have been a few people that say their particular razor was difficult to get it to re sharpen . You may just want to experiment

@HarryIsTheGamingGeek you could use a leather strop like they use for straight razors

Most disposables should work... I can't say from experience but a blade is a blade... some multi-razor blades may not work because you may not be able to "reach" the blade and put denim to it...

I did it backwards and now I have a pair of fashionably fabulous shredded jeans... AND my chin is as smooth as it gets.

Thank you, Jake T. Robinson! :D

you are not really sharpening the blades what you are doing is to keep it without residues of foam, soap your blood, that wont let you do a great shave!!!

I don't throw them away because they get blunt its usually because keeping them is filthy... I'm hoping you sterilize them too

I use a 2 blade disposable with lubricating strip I have about 2 times a week and I just pat it dry with a towel and it stays sharp. I can use that 1 razor for about 3 months without doing anything other than patting it dry.

What I do between shaves is place the cartridge in an air tight pill bottle which prevents oxygen from oxidizing the five blades. But I will try the stropping technique as well. So far my Fusion Pro-Glide (teal strip) is going strong from the summer of 2012 which is several months. Thanks.

I've heard that keeping them in a glass or jar of baby oil (filled to cover just the blades) also keeps them sharp longer.
