  • Does anyone know the origin of this type of lion dance? Is it related to a certain festival and does it depict a legend or something?

  • @yclana1 This is a lion dance of Okinawa.

It is thought that this lion dance started around 1400.

(Okinawa was an independent country called Ryukyu Dynasty at the time.)

It seems that they took in the kata(style) of shuritei(karate of those days) to the lion dance introduced from China(Ming Dynasty), and made it develop into original dancing.

The lion dance is danced in order to disperse the evil spirit which spread when God goes away after the harvest or the Bon Festival.
