Line 6 employees have repeatedly claimed on forums that the M9 must be powered by the official Line 6 9vAC 2A adapter. Users looking for an alternative have been forced to spend hundreds of dollars on high-end pedal power supplies, when all they needed was a $3 cable... and me.
This is the jumper cable that will save your life http://www.godlyke.com/power-all/power-all-cables/power-all-cable-green-right...
Note that it is centre-positive (a.k.a tip positive or reverse polarity) and a different size than regular daisy chain plugs.
The Godlyke Powerall's 2A is enough to power my M9 and 4 other pedals (Strymon blueSky, Boss PS-6, Blackstone Appliances Mosfet OD, and T1m mini buffer). I wouldn't recommend trying this with a OneSpot with only 1.7A output.
I wanna know how this works. The Godlyke is DC Power and the M9 takes AC Power. It shouldn't work.

@AlexJonesCRAM It's so simple it hurt when I found out too. Internally, the M9 runs on DC (all electronics do), but there is a rectifier at the input to convert AC to DC (look up rectifier on Wikipedia). If you send it AC, the rectifier converts it into DC. If you send it DC, it just passes through.
The reason Line 6 (and other manufacturers) design their products this way is to trick you into purchasing their own AC adapters -- and knowing how many people lose/damage adapters, it's good money.

@AlexJonesCRAM Just an additional note, I've been using my M9 with the Godlyke exclusively since I posted this video 4 months ago. From what I understand after further reading up, sending DC to a supposedly AC input won't hurt (but may not always work like this case); sending AC to a DC input though will most likely fry something.
