Theresa and Rachel at the Muir Woods National Monument, a unit of the National Park Service. The Monument is only 15 miles from San Francisco, and includes about 250 acres of absolutely incredible old-growth coastal redwoods. The redwoods in Muir Woods average between 500-800 years old, with the oldest being over 1,200 years old. The tallest tree is 258 feet, with most being over 200 feet tall. Incredibly, the trees grow from a seed no bigger than a tomato's.
