Switching between pictures in Ableton Live using velocity or Midi note number. Live doesn't like pictures AFAIK, but it likes a good movie or two... and it doesn't care how long they are. So, make your images into really short movies, then set locate points and assign MIDI notes to them. Use chains to send out different notes from the same input note and you can change pictures based upon velocity... make a MIDI light organ, VJ basics on the cheap (if you already own live).

  • so..how do i do that!?

  • @johlu515 :

You set a marker in Live and then map a MIDI note to that marker. You can map MIDI notes to lots & lots of markers, then use a MIDI track (or keyboard) to select them. In the video, whatever drum machine I was using at the time (I think an MPC1k) just had the pads mapped out to different pictures; tapping the pads let you select the picture/video in real time.

It's the same trick as in "video MIDI harp guitar", more or less.

wassup great work i done this a couple of time buyt unfortuantly i dont know how to record the video with the music at the same time while in arrangement veiw basically i want to create a stutter effect on the video while the audio still plays on without stuttering on the audio...thanks

It's a been a while since I've done anything with this, but I think I was using two versions of Live (one for audio and one for video) when I did it. I'm not sure if you could do it within one version of Live.

Hopefully that helps, and thanks for the kind words.

  • @db3ll THANKS A LOT MAN!

Seriusly, I've just made a video manually, and it was painful...

Now I know how to do it the 'quick' way next time... thank you!

  • so using the rack chains you could fire images.

  • Cool .. Do you know how I could do this using fruity loops?

  • my same pad went out too. lol the unit is great but the pads go out fast.
