Deep within an emerald green African forest in rural Zimbabwe is an artists colony populated by Shona sculptors - famous world wide for their distinctive art forms carved out of a variety of stone materials of varying hardness which is harvested from nearby quarries.
Their art is prolific, their customers few these days as visitors are staying away because of political instability. The artists however cannot stop creating their beautiful stone art, it is in their blood - they know nothing else - they live their art. The work is distinctive from other African countries stone carvings distinguished by the multi textural surfaces which is the hallmark of Shona sculpture.
Eco Africa Social Ventures is striving to help revitalize the great art and crafting culture of Zimbabwe by finding markets for the art of not only the paper making and paper crafting initiatives that they started, but also the famous sculptures and Wire & Bead artists of Zimbabwe.
