My visit to Camp Shira the day after camp ended 2007. When I went there from 1959-63 it was known as Camp Ta-Go-La. Nothing has changed in 45 years. Isn't that great!

  • Great video....I went to Ta-go-la '61-'63 and was the Head Rifle Counselor for the last two years. I have many wonderful memories. Alot of the counselors followed Doug Manheinmer to Ta-go-la from Camp Ge-wah-na in '61. Thanks

  • @Psilbo

I loved rifelry at Tagola down that road past the basketball courts and towards the horseback riding. I can vaguely remember what you looked like but I do remember you. I was there 60,61 and 62. Manheimer was a great guy compared to anyone but especially Caruso. I loved the 22 target shooting and the skeets with the 410

  • Wow!!! I was in Ta Go La from '74-'79. This video is amazing. Thank you SO much for taking the time to do this! The Laurel hotel you mentioned! Remember Bend n' Elbow, and Once upon a Stool down the road??? The round building on girl's campus was used for the youngest campers and staff babies. Remember the totem pole?? It was taken down for Camp Shira, because it represented idolatry. Such a shame. Never saw the bldg. by the pool. That is new. This was such a rush for me. Thank you, thank you!!!

  • I think that that new building by the pool that looks like an airplane hangar is an indoor gym.

  • Only a past camper like you could appreciate this whole experience.

  • i went there in the 70's, early 70's and the video brought me back, i do remember the handball court and you are right the flag pole is gone, i remember HY Ozer, does that ring a bell to anyone, also they would do a game if you liked someone brother or relative you got a piece of candy. My pediatrician owned the camp the Frankel Family, had alot of fun times there, miss it and definately would be cool to have a reunion, thanx for the memories richard, brian geller

  • Hi! Nice to hear from you....I remember Caruso very well...a really great guy. Doug Manheimer was the Boys Head Counselor at Ge-Wah-Na and went over to Ta-go-la as Camp Director in '61. I remember using those single shot 410's....not easy to hit the clay pigeons. I certainly remember going over to the Laurels across the way...and Kaplan's Deli in Monticello on our days off.

  • this brings back so many memories. thank you for taking the time to post this. I went to camp from 68-72. started in bunk 2 as one of the youngest there. i have such fond memories of togola. I think it was one of the best things in my childhood. Andy Satenspiel. (some of you might remember me)
