Partite diverse sopra:
Sei gegrüßet, Jesu gütig / Hail thee Jesus, kind of heart
BWV 768 (1)
Partita I - VII
*Notice* I had to divide this partita into 2 parts, because of YouTubes 10min maximum regulation.

composed by J.S. Bach (1685-1750)
performed by Kay Johannsen, organ

Variations on the chorale:
Sei gegrüßet, Jesu gütig
über alle Maß sanftmütig!
Ach, wie bist du so zerschmissen
und dein zarter Leib zerrissen!
Laß mich deine Liebe erben
und darin seelig sterben.
(Christian Keimann, 1607-1662)

  • Can someone pleas tell me which stop combination he is using here in the first variation?

It is clear that the solo is a sesquialtera with something else and the the accomp. is combined out of some pricipals but I am interested in the concrete combination :-)

    Hope someone can help.

  • So glad I've found the first part of these variations. The opening chorale is superb. The music seems to offer hope in this world of woe. The first variation is captivating. As I mentioned in my other comment on the second part of this work, Variation X is my firm favourite, which I always played loudly and boldly as I felt the final variation was more like a full stop at the end of the sentence. If I could only take one piece of Bach to a desert island this piece would be in the reckoning.

  • Great!

"J.S" always makes me feel overwhelmed...

Have you already read Shuckburgh's "Harmony and Discord - The Real Life of Johann Sebastian Bach"?... Would you believe if I told you the man reinforces J. Adolph Scheibes's criticism AND gives star to some works by Bach?... For instance, BWV 542 gets 2*... Well... but such a list "allots three stars for masterpieces, two stars for further superb works, and one star for further excellent works"... Only 147 masterpieces are listed.

  • Thank you Daniel for sharing this video.

I do not think some people like to rate one star for no reason. Not at least regarding all the videos... In some cases one star seems to indicate... envy, perhaps?.... These people do not post comments...

  • Once again I would like to question...why only 4 stars????? I feel so dissatisfied even when I rate it a 5***** for Bach's music....but "four"??????

  • Wonderful as always Daniel, keep up the good work!!!

  • I just love it! The structure, the perfect interpretation of Johannsen; but of course the perfect harmony of Johann Sebastian Bach!! thank you for sharing this magnificent work. I feel as if my spirit is elevated to the highest ;) :D :D
