  • @fluortablett As a person who loves sound for film, and greatly respects the Skywalker Sound team, I was very disappointed in the use of T-Rex and Velociraptor sounds from Jurassic Park. They even used the 1977 King Kong growl. Why in the world would Cameron make these choices if we were supposed to be on a planet never seen or heard before. And I'm pretty sure he wouldn't let any sound get by without his approval. This totally took me out of the film!

  • @MisterWub Yes you are so right!

  • The sounds from Avatar sounds exactly like the ones from Jurassic Park...

  • I was surprised that Avatar didn't win this. Those editors created a whole new world, but The Hurt Locker really captured the craziness and suspense of an IED going off.

  • thing i don't understand in avatar, is that jake is connected to his avatar all the time, though there totally seperated of eachother. Could somebody help me out?

  • Star Trek was my personal favorite for both sound categories.

  • Avatar did not deserve to win for sound editing. I really hate that they used Jurassic Park sound effects in this movie!! Pandora was supposed to be a place we had never seen or heard before. That was just total laziness on Cameron's part. I blame him not Chris Boyes.

  • Avatar is definitely a big favorite in this category. The Hurt Locker poses a strong threat though. Transformers suffers because the movie is so bad.

But, not sure if Avatar will win both Sound categories. Refer to the "Best Sound" page for my comments about what I believe is its strongest competition (Inglourious Basterds).

  • I agree. Avatar will and should win both sound categories. However, I wouldn't complain if Star Trek won, as I felt it perfectly combined classic Trek sounds with the newer mix. Plus, it would make-up for that horrible snub last year when Ben Burtt's incredible sound-work for Wall-E didn't win.
