This is the new energy efficiency teaching lab at Milwaukee Area Technical College. This room is still being constructed. The idea behind this lab is to give students hands on access to building mechanical systems. The students test for operation, energy use, and conservation.
The system has a steam boiler, hot water heat exchangers, steam traps, solar panels on the roof, a chiller with a cooling tower, and a cold thermal storage tank. Also various type of roof top units and air handling units. Along with different types of VAV boxes and heating and cooling coils.
Many different teaching opportunities can be done here from the explanation of the systems and how they work, to fuel usage, electrical usage, water conservation, air balancing, and more.
The school supplied an empty room and the blue decking, then all of the equipment was donated by local contractors and supply houses. The labor for the installation was donated by union members and retired workers from several different building trades. Much thanks is due to a couple of key people who are involved with both MATC and the local unions for their efforts to make this lab a reality.
p.s. I'm a Union Sheet Metal Worker looking for work, so if you're a Milwaukee area contractor, send an email to my Youtube account name. Thank You. Paul. pauljolry@yahoo.com
