Wages of Sin discussed

It's the north side of Chicago, Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2009. The bus is heading east, but looming ahead in the next intersection is an enormous crowd, with a scattering of Police officers and Police vehicles. It's obvious that the bus is not heading any further east, and one will have to walk the rest of the way. The crowd is in a festive mood. Many of them are wearing Mardi Gras-style plastic beads, and it being a very warm and sunny day, many are rather scantily dressed. There are men walking about in nothing but shoes and tighty-whiteys, and women with no top on and nothing but a pair of stickers covering their nipples. Many of them are holding small wooden sticks with which they playfully slap friends, companions, and even total strangers on their behinds. Nobody appears to take any offense at this liberty. But what's this? At the corner of Belmont and Clark are several evangelical gentlemen standing in a line behind barricades, holding signs, and the one standing on top of a small platform is shouting through a bullhorn, dispensing candid remarks about the wages of sin, and why the people in the crowd are an abomination to Jesus, and in the enthusiastic spirit of public debate, the crowd is more than eager to discuss these subjects with those evangelical gentlemen. It's Gay Pride Parade day.
