Well actually they said it didn't over steer it had a very neutral slide. But in reference to the seatbelts, with the prevalence of fires back then I can understand why they wanted to be able to jump out quickly.

Lotus '67 didn't have seatbells?! O_o? Just insane to jump into that oversteering monster without them... but it looks just fabulous in the corners. ;)
