Lost track of this classic song but traced it back after many yrs. GJ blends with LKJ and musicians in a phenomenal way.

1987. Shopping a Brooklyn flea market. I just picked up this record because it was a rare occurrence at that time to see a promotional 7" record from Epic with 4 songs and no hole for an adapter. No idea what to expect, and then.. S C O R C H E R ! ! ! That was the first time I had ever heard of Garland Jeffreys and this song along w/ "We The People" are mainstays of my soundsystem, Roots Dynamic. 2006. We both performed at Southpaw for Beyond Race. Missed U @ IBS 2010! > Professor DLC

nope but i know pll who lived there during the drug wars.people would had been seen walking down the streets, you could had gotten killed for no reason but the plesure of the one who killed you murder rates went from 200 to 1200 from 1979 to after when the cubans came

When someone asked me about the one album (!) I'd take to a deserted island I answered "Escape Artist". That was 25 years ago, and I still stick to it. The beauty and horror of "Mystery Kids", "Graveyard Rock", and "Miami Beach" (although it was on the 45 that went with the album) makes this an indespensible work. I love this guy!

Don't go north of Flagler street in the downtown area. That's the worst part of the city. Other "bad" areas are scattered and small and aren't as bad.
Stay out of Carol City, Liberty City, Overtown, Wynwood, Little Havana, Little Haiti,
These are other 'rough areas'
Old coconut grove, west South Miami, Cutler Bay. That's about it.

they dont, they like to visit South Beach =-)
hahah

Miami has high crime rate -horrible politicians -lots killed yearly why would anyone visit there ?
Linton is the man. I love protest music. Been a radical since my teens back in the 70s. Garland Jefferys took me through hard times in the late seventies and 80s. Reggae is music for the evolving mind. When a man speaks out the system tries to silence him.
When a man has words that degrade his communtiy the system endorses it.
