  • It's so sad to think that Onslow's Cortina may have been rare not only for being a television star, but it may also have been the last of it's kind when it was scrapped. I am sure that someplace like Beaulieu would have taken it as an exhibit. I have also found out that Richard's Rover 216S is getting to be rare. There's only 46 of them left documented and I'm sure there's not many of the correct colour. In 10 years the last of them will probably be gone, as well.

  • @alanmartin18 A silver W126 S-Class was seen in brief shots in "The Christening", "Driving Mrs Fortescue" (Bruce is depicted filling it up wearing a roman costume) and "Problems with Relatives". Violet and Bruce traded up in Series 5 - a maroon W140 S-Class is shown in "Riparian Entertainments" with Onslow behind the wheel - lets just say that Violet was more accepting of Daisy and Onslow than what Hyacinth was!

  • @rodsterau And Violet and Bruce's Mercedes-Benz... I liked how there was no shortage of car scenes in KUA.

  • @gamewizard I'd suspect that it would have been in that condition already - roadsalt caused many Cortinas to be welded, or bogged with primer, or new panels to be fitted at early ages - and took too many of them off the road (some vehicles only lasted 7-8 years)...

On further research, I have discovered that there are NO Ford Cortina 1.6 GL's of ANY year currently documented in the UK at all and there hasn't been since 2006 so the option of building a replica of Onslow's car is even off the table unless you are fortunate enough to find one someplace that hasn't been documented in all that time or you import one from outside the UK. Australia would be a good place to look but I can't imagine many more survived there.

  • Well, bad news for fans of the Cortina. After some research I found out that the car has been scrapped. I found a photo site where a photographer posted pictures of it rotting away in what appears to be in an industrial area as it looks like there is a warehouse or factory structure alongside and he commented that shortly after it was photographed it was scrapped. :(

Yes, to check if a vehicle in the UK has been taxed or put on a sorn etc you can search "DVLA vehicle enquiry" in google. Its free to use and all you require is the vehicle number plate. You sadly cannot find out who owns the vehicle or the last keeper unless you pay a fee to the DVLA.

  • @dannyisso

Is there any way of checking if it's been SORN'ed and who the last person to file the documents was?

  • I wonder if they found that Cortina in that condition or if they had to do cosmetic work on it to make it look so run down.
