  • One can quibble with some of the stylistic choices, but it is a pleasure to hear this song performed by a woman with a big enough voice to own the song. As often as not, this song gets the best of its singer. That did not happen here. Her sound is gorgeous.

  • I was there. Front row. I fell in love with her that night. It was called a perfect production. She was a reason why.

  • Wow. I've seen this live, and listened to version after version of this song as people cracked, got lost in the changing tone and attitude, and missed the whole point. THIS is SPECTACULAR. She is phenomenal. Blown away...

  • she is so fantastic and beautiful. can't count how many times I've watched this.

  • @GreenGoddessofGaia Why do you assume that pop music can't be sophisticated? Try transcribing a Janet Jackson song, and then come talk to me about sophisticated.

  • Sara and Patti on one stage?! I don't know if I could have handled it live!

  • Incredible.

  • @LaCageAuxGypsy I'm well aware what "pop" stands for - that was actually my point! lol So I think this is the first time I have ever heard anyone imply Sondheim's music is popular. If only! I mean, he certainly deserves household name status. But the fact of the matter is that the majority of casual theatre goers never grasp onto his shows. You know what they say, "You don't leave your brain with your coat at the door when you see a Sondheim show."

  • @Lalitalien1 @Kenya101 I have no idea what your definitions of pop are, but Sondheim does not write pop music, certainly not in this show. One could do a pop-styled cover, but it still doesn't make it a pop song. Sondheim doesn't stylize his songs to be hits infused with a rock-inspired sound, which is what pop music is. There are songs in Company that were orchestrated to have a familiar 70s feel - that's as pop as you're going to get from Sondheim.

  • Having seen seen the original Broadway production several times, I can tell you for a fact that Sarfa Ramirez is better than the original actress who performed this role. It's worth noting that Stephen Sondheim never really liked this song and it was cut from the movie version that hal Prince made with the late Elizabeth Taylor. He might be swayed if he watched Sara perform it!!

  • her version of this song is so haunting! I love it.
