Dammit I never saw this. would of bought one

a hummer is an idiot's car. and that becomes clear when you have to pay for the batteries to move that lump of shit because it wastes a lot.

@jimmyhoffa9 California is the biggest on power outs due to too much draw on the system in the summer, my state has even had problems, hell, a nuclear plant near by had to cut back on power production due to raising the temps of the lake it's on. I've talked to people who are sent all around the US to periodically test all the oil wells, the number of capped ones is unfathomable, the news said 300 in California are soon to be opened because the price has met what they want.
-
@Maples01 agreed, we still have about 50% of the worlds oil available, its just hard to get to. it depends what infrastructure your talking about, in the US, i dont know but in the UK there's easily the capabilities to have electric vehicles. the batteries would most likely be disposed of by a disposal company who either reuse the chemicals or neutralise them ,kind of like what bettery banks do.
-
@jimmyhoffa9 What you're not getting is the infrastructure is not stable enough for powering extra electronics, it's taxed out as is, summer is times of rolling blackouts, now you're looking for cars? All materials that make up batteries is made from hazardous materials that require disposal when done, just who do you trust to carry this out? We have more oil than being led to believe, but the fear factor is great for price control, any replacement will be the same!

@GameUrg system would shut off and you'd hopefully be safe. i suspect the batteries are in armoured casings, like race cars use kevlar tanks. nice thing with electric though is that with braking, you can reverse the motors power by 100% and stop way quicker than the best brake systems in the world, so if your car utilized proximity sensors it could stop you way before crashing.
-
@Maples01 maybe, maybe not. if batteries are disposed in the proper facilities, they're fine. they dont have to use li-ion batteries, they can use lithium phosphate, which would last longer. its not necessarily about damage to the enviroment. if oil runs out, most cars are screwed, but electric ones can be charged with hydro etc. its more likely ethanol based fuels will be used instead of electric cars.
-
@ljoch88 true, but if they used lithium phosphate, it would last for ages, although the capacity would be lower. its likely that it would still be worth it because 100mpg in a vehicle of that size is phenomenal. kawasaki ninja 250r's get that mpg, and theres no way they have the power of a hummer.
-
@fmincer the reason they put it in a hummer is to A:showcase that the technology is so efficient, you can even use it in a thirsty hummer. and B: because of the massive size of a hummer, theres alot of space for the batteries, the generator and the engine, without having to skimp out on the range of the vehicle.
-
The only downside to these batteries is you'll probably have to buy a whole new set of fresh ones every 3 years because they have a limited charge span :( other than that they are perfect for these times
Maybe you can overclock your car.
