Feeding Young Red-Breasted Toucan

This young red-breasted toucan had been rejected from its nest in our garden near Sao Paulo, Brazil. We found it infested with berne maggots which we had to remove. The film shows our caring for the bird and feeding it before handing it over to the environmental police to be taken to a small wildlife park to be cared for until ready to be returned to the wild. Meanwhile the parents continue to care for the remaining chics in the nest.

No, it doesn't hurt at all. In fact it is quita a nice feeling.

The parents are back again and habe laid eggs which have hatched. We are getting great photos of the parents flying in and out of the nest feeding them dead birds and eggs. Can't wait to see the babies fly out.

have you heard anything more about the toucan you guys rescued? Is it ok now?

Yes it is. We kept in touch with the vets who were looking after it and they sent us photos of it as it grew. He grew into a gorgeous toucan. He was released into the wild close by with another 7 toucans a couple of months ago. It was a real success story.
