Meet Dr. Mulu Muleta, obstetric fistula surgeon and WAHA's country coordinator in Ethiopia. Dr. Mulu is a gynaecologist obstetrician who has been providing women with fistula repair surgery for over 20 years. Obstetric fistula is a childbirth injury which leaves women incontinent, leaking urine and/or faeces, for the rest of their lives if they do not receive treatment. It leads women to social isolation and suffering. Around 2 million women with obstetric fistula are in need of surgery, while an additional 50,000 to 100,000 new cases occur annually. Each year only around 10,000 women benefit from fistula repair surgery.
