World Famous Baritone Robert Allman sings Lucrezia Borgia aria at his age of 81 at VCM Redlands Vocal Competition as a guest Artist. He is a chairman of Opera Foundation and the teacher of Brendan Jaepil Han.
I worked together with him at Glyndebourne Festival Opera 1979/80 in the Fidelio production by Sir Peter Hall, Benard Haitink cond. where he sang Pizzaro and I sang Rocco.I have many pleasant memories of our work together. Wbw/Curt Appelgren
He was actually a bass baritone with a very fortunate top on his voice. The man is actually a genius and anything said to contrary is a mockery of Australia's most respect bass-baritone.
Franco Vassallo is singing Alfonso this year and he is a true Baritone. I believe this is one of those roles that can be sung by either voice part, it sits right in the middle for the most part.

I had the privilege to have him as a teacher for a short while. An absolutely lovely man with a huge voice and a love of singers and singing.

I saw him in many roles, ranging from Luigi to Rigoletto, from Scarpia to Tonio, from Carlo in Forza to Renato in Masked Ball!.
He was a very Italianate baritone with an excellent diction and very good acting abilities.
Obviusly with time a lot of that has long gone, but I could recognise his vocal tone anywhere.
Together with Don Smith and Liz Fretwell they made an incredible trio: They could fill a theatre without 2nd rate imported singers.
Thank you for the memories.
