IN MEMORY OF STAN WEISS. This is a home-made recording entitled, "The Wildest" and dates from October 1950 and lists saxist Stan Weiss (died 1-16-2011) and trumpeter Gerry LaFurn (d. Nov. 1988). This after-hours private recording was made by drummer Howie Mann of the Elliot Lawrence band. I transferred it on CD directly from the reel-to-reel. Pictured is Gerry (on the left), Stan Weiss in the middle and my father Joe Techner on the right. All three are wearing their Elliot Lawrence band uniforms: maroon cardigan, gray pants, white shirt, multi-colored bow tie, white handkerchief in the suit coat breast pocket, and shined browned shoes. The back of the photo is stamped July 31, 1950 from a local Evansville, Indiana drug store. However, I think the photo was actually taken in Omaha, Nebraska where they had a week-long engagement at the Orpheum Theater from July 21 - 27, 1950. Recording and photo from my private collection.
