In a comment that is sure to draw the ire of New Yorkers, Bobby Valentine declared "I hate the Yankees" in an interview on Wednesday.
The spiteful comments came in Dallas, after a managers luncheon. In addition to declaring his hatred for the 27-time World Series winning team, he also asked that reporters not "waste this valuable time talking about the Yankees." Reporters got to talk about the Yankees just several minutes later, when manager Joe Girardi was interviewed. During his time, Girardi commented on the storied baseball rivalry, and also gave his thoughts on how Valentine would affect Boston's team dynamics.
Ironically, Valentine, who grew up in Stamford, Connecticut, was once a Yankee fan. His allegiance to New York runs even deeper, as he managed the Mets from 1996 to 2002. But when he became the manager for the Sox last month, old feelings evidently went completely out the door. As New Yorkers at Big Apple Daily, we root for the Bronx Bombers. We'll see what happens next season. Play ball!
