Cut threads on 1" wood dowel and made nut wood nut with 1" tap. Very easy and makes very nice clean threads.

This tap & die performs exceptionally well on hardwood. Makes neat threads.

Will not work on soft wood such as pine or popular.

@nostoppingnow Your first problem started when you went to HomeDepot.  Try a lumber yard and get hardwood dowels. You might have been getting a different variety of wood rather than oak.
