  • I have this entire video, and here on YouTube it cuts off just as Bev is saying, "We're going to skip the chain 1 we just made, and work the first single crochet into the last sc of the previous row. Remember, you turned the work around so that you are working the first stitch into the last stitch of row 1. I hope this helps. Better yet, buy the video. It's worth your time and money.

  • You're really not skipping anything for the next row of single crochet. The -only- thing skipped is the chain 1 that you made. It doesn't count as a stitch in sc; it's merely made to raise your hook up to the proper height for a single crochet. When you learn to make half-double crochet and higher stitches, you will skip the first stitch of each row, since the turning chain counts as your first stitch. This does not apply to single crochet, though.

  • For the next row, you make a chain 1, then turn your work from right to left, toward you. The chain 1 is made to bring your hook up to the height of a sc (single crochet). Now, make your first sc of the new row in the top of the last sc of the previous row, working under two threads. Continue across the row to the last sc, then repeat these instructions for each remaining row. This is much easier shown than described in words.
