About eight years ago I was at one of the first FISL conferences in Porto Alegre, Brazil and I got about three hundred people chanting "Linus, we love you...Linus, we need you.." and tried to make a video of it with my still camera. While the image turned out fine, the audio was not recorded. From time to time people would ask me about that video and I was embarrassed about not having it turn out good.
This year at FISL 10 I admitted to my mistake and asked if we could re-record the session. I think it turned out fairly nicely....the "wave" was new.
Linus, they love you....Linus, they need you.
oooma saleeema oooma saleema! Where was this in Brazil and how far away is it from Jonestown? This is just plain creepy. Thousands and thousands of individuals contribute to Gnu/Linux not just one. There are so many there is no room for prima donnas. It isn't a cult.

Linus is the opposite of a prima donna. He does not typically go to events because he identifies himself as an engineer, and he dislikes people taking pictures of him, asking for autographs, etc.
Linus has accepted awards for Linux, but he is careful to acknowledge that these awards are for the community.
For a group of people to ask him to come to their conference and to show them their appreciation for what he (and the rest of the GNU/Linux) community has done is not out of line.
