Vocal session: Rival Big Bang

Since I've enjoyed posting session videos for my guitar and bass playing, I've decided to be brave and do one for a vocal session.

So as to not completely scare you away, I show you the end product first, a composite of the best bits from 21 full takes. There are at least two layers of voice playing at any given time, sometimes as many as 6 or 7. Besides wading through all the takes to pick out the best sounding phrases, I tweaked some of the timing and pitch as well, especially on the higher (and harder to sing) parts.

When I'm recording vocals, it's normal for me to talk to myself out loud between lines (I'm not just acting up for the camera). I figured those moments would be the best to show here because they reveal a little of my thought process.

Yes, 21 is a lot of takes, but some of these lyrics are new, so I'm working out the exact melodies as I go along. Towards the end I'm putting more into it, but also losing my voice.

If I thought I was God's gift to singing, this video would be a fair target for put-downs; but since I'm being honest and just trying to do the best work I can with what I've got, please go easy on me. Namaste. ;)
