its because the original Hodiea, Christus Natus Est is for ATBB (alto, tenor, baritone, bass) So if you were to turn that into SATB then it would require the tenors and altos to switch.
Great piece, my choir is singing it this year. This version is a little slow imho. Interestingly, they also switched the alto and tenor parts at the "in terra cantatum" part, as we did!

hahaha i just watched the video of another group's whose tempo was REALLY fast. we're singing it at a moderate tempo.
