Looks like somthing from a mad scientist's lab in an early sci-fi movie. But serioulsy, I think that is cool. I'd love to do my own high-voltage experiments, but I'm sure I'd kill myself.

That's beautiful.

I'll just scoot right into this...as i read through this debate, both sides seemed possibly valid, but you ruined your comeback with the "we'll have some intelligent discussion". That was an intelligent discussion, unless the definition of one is when you are right. Douche McDouche

I would not have thought of xrays being produced. If i was in the same room as this machine I would be tempted to get some lead and film to make a poor mans dosimeter.
way cool though.
where might one purchase this fine item

They're rare antiques. I've seen three for sale in the last decade and the last one sold for a lot of money.

Yes they produce some X-rays. I doubt the modern reproductions use leaded glass as it fluoresces blue and all the modern tubes I've seen fluoresce green.
The trick is not to run the tube for long, keep the voltage to the minimum and operate the tube from 6 feet away.

It was proved by J J Thomson in 1900 that the wheel is turned by the heating action of the cathode rays in exactly the same way sunlight turns a solar radiometer. He calculated that the electrons alone would turn the wheel about one revolution per minute.
