This is the third of three clips from a presentation given at Orella Ranch (Thanks, Gunner, et al.) by Jason Tanne of E-N-ergy.
The video starts just a few seconds into the talk, it is raw and un-edited, but worth a watch.
Shown is the smallest of several units available and its use is primarily as a demonstration or educational tool; The return on re-conversion is approximately 8 pounds of plastic for each gallon of oil recovered and the small unit (which is really for sales and educational demonstrations) can only accommodate 2+/- pounds at a time. The process recovers roughly 80-90% of the oil used in the original plastic production (not including mfg, transportation, etc.) in about 2.5-3 hours.
According to their estimates, useable fuel can be produced at a cost of 20-40 cents per gallon at CA utility rates (the driving mechanism is essentially a pressurized precision electric autoclave.)
This is Awesome! Recently I saw some pieces on shows like CNN and the journal with Joan Lunden on PBS that were talking about issues and solutions for industrial recycling. This kind of thing takes it to the next level. Of course it’s not as good as eliminating oil altogether but it will help get rid of some of the waste for now. Plus, it looks like the contraption that fueled the back to the future car.
