Blute nur, du liebes Herz!
Ach! ein Kind, das du erzogen,
Das an deiner Brust gesogen,
Droht den Pfleger zu ermorden,
Denn es ist zur Schlange worden.

  • I am sorry that whoever doesn't speak german as native tongue can only get a glimpse of the "sweet sorrow" that express the lyrics in all of Bach's oeuvre. "Blute nur, du liebes Herz" alone is magnificent, has so many connotations.

  • I love to read all these positive comments while listening to a beautiful reading of this aria. Splendid.

  • exceptional piece,

magnificent voice, a bit too slow for modern times :-)

  • This version is a bit too slow for the singing. It makes the singer makes many efforts to kep each ending note longer than usual.

ut her voice is stunning ! Beautiful !!

  • @GloriaJanvier I agree about Helen.I love the way she smiles through her singing, and it probably even brightens her tone further. I wouldn't agree so much with you about Richter , though. I've heard some very dragging tempos from him but he produced a lot of magic too. A lot depends on whether we have fully bought into the "authentic" way of performance. I haven't fully . I also greatly admired Richter's physical conducting in these videos. I love a conductor like that, serene and precise.

  • So pure and moving singing.

  • Amazing interpretation, excellent technique...even through the computer I can hear the harmonics she produces!

  • @emilyalbrink

I absolutely agree with you! Her singing is immaculate and moving at the same time! Small wonder she has had such a great and long-lasting career. Her technique is fabulous!

  • This is truly great singing of an incredibly difficult Bach aria, with instrumental legato.

Helen Donath is a consummate singing musician! OK, maybe the trills aren't "perfect". Who cares? Karl Richter is rather mechanical; get over it. This was 1971!

  • oh she absolutely knew what she was singing about..she is a fabulous musician, artist, and singer who has had an incredible career.
