Here's my comparison of Bandai's 2001 Soul of Popynica BPX-01 and 2010 Soul of Chogokin GX-57.

GX-57 has more diecast, an infrared remote which controls 2 full color LED's, 4 soundtracks, 5 sound effects, has eight fighters, and runs on 4 AAA batteries (it's also longer by half an inch and slightly wider).
BPX-01 has numerous gimmicks, several sound effects, has five fighters, and runs on 2 AAA batteries.

  • which one has more gemmics? which one would you reccomend?

  • @tacticalking161

    Gimmicks? The Popynica verison.

    IMHO I love em both.

  • BPX-01 is heavier but that's probably from all the electronics and hidden interior detailing.

  • Which Yamato would you recommend to sate my childish need to occasionally grab my ships off the shelves and wave them around while making woosh sounds? :P

  • Good review! thank you

  • Battleship Yamato shouldn't have been in the SOC lineup. But anyway, it doesn't deviate a great deal from the SOP version, so I guess one is enough. More diecast is a plus. But I sincerely hate electronics in toys. I am torn, because I have all of the regular released SOCs to date, until they released GX-57 in limited quantities. I wonder why is that? It's supposed to be a mass produced toy, like all regular released SOCs before. There is no reason to make the Yamato the exception.
