  • What a great production and melody. So much emotion. And then there are people who say that ´dance´ music has got no soul. I think that these synths are so much warmer then any guitar ever will be.

  • The only thing I don't like about VNV Nation is the fact that it's impossible to pick a favorite song by them.

  • Ich kann mir nicht helfen der synthiesound am anfang erinnert mich an die 70er....ganimed und so lool

  • @ponchola Could be. Could very well be. That or you are reading waaaaaaay too much into something that's just a great tune.

  • @ponchola Which fits very well with their Band name "Victory Not Vengeance". I find the best thing about these guys is the fact that when we first listen to them, we enjoy the tune for whatever melody we fancy at the time (VNV is known for their wide variety of tempos). After you start listening to the enveloped lyrics, the song is born anew, and proceeds to make us ponder the deeper meaning of the song.

  • @ponchola Finally (and I'll stop after this post) the song ends in the minor chords/modality, and then closes off with the white noise that fades out, almost as if to musically say "Enough, the time has passed to dream about how good the future will be. It could have been good, it is not so."

This is even more in line with the context of the next track "Gratitude" where that song talks about pulling Good out of the Bad, or dealing with past failings (current failings) to not give up, moving on

  • @ponchola "Strategies" "applied technologies" "brighter future" "a vision forged with great intentions" "generations yet to come" "aerodynamic dreams" "foundation for tomorrow..." "start again" "build" "horizons" "electronic alchemists"

Sorry for all the quotations - it's just all evocative of how great things could be, which doesn't at all seem to match the reality of the first 12 years of the new century. All the verbs are potential actions, all the adjectives are potential descriptions.

  • I'd like to hear other peoples' opinions. To me, this song is from the perspective of someone just entering the 21st Century who is full of optimism, but seems ironic in the present unrest of our current times.

"A brighter future for a darker age" seems to seal this interpretation for me, given that historians are almost unanimous in saying the 20th century was the most destructive in all of human history.

To me, Ronan is almost regretting the failures of our time. It's not cheerful.

  • Future perrrrfect!! :)

  • Krass aus der VnV Schmiede...
