以前讀酒入愁腸化作相思淚，會覺得很悽楚。胡笳十八拍卻是比酒入­愁腸更加悽楚千百倍，是那種斷腸般的悲涼。

Women were hard to come by and the bride price for a good woman was high, that's why they often had to resort to kidnapping and it was necessary to keep productive women around. In the nomadic Hebrew culture, widows were handed to the brothers. Han China, on the other hand, held women cheaply and a man could buy many concubines.

@deepshenliu - You are mostly correct. However, she told her sad story in a different poem, "Sorrow and Outrage". This poem is less about her, more about the land and people of Xiongnu. Cao Cao ransomed her because he was a good friend of her father. She was the wife of one of the Xiongnu chefs. Never could understand why she chose to abandon her sons and bothered to return to the wartorn China to marry someone else. But her poems are beautiful and break my heart every time I read them.
