I was a high school kid in Sarasota FL when this film was made there at the Ringling Circus winter quarters. After the on-location filming was completed members of the cast, horse drawn circus wagons, caged animals, clowns, elephants, etc from the circus put on a parade down Main Street. I was about 15 and anxious to see Betty Hutton up close wearing that short skirt outfit. What a disappointment she turned out to be. Up close she looked like a weatherbeaten old hag with a really bad hangover.

Thumbs Up if Steven Spielberg has sent you here!

It's way better than the 2005 winner 'Crap' I mean 'Crash'...

@vadimzdonutube Although to be fair when I saw it I felt it could have lived up to it's title had been not as long and not as melodramatic
-
@vadimzdonutube The reason was there was a blacklist in Hollywood at the time and 'High Noon' was (I think) written by someone on the blacklist. TGSHOE was the big box office sensation of the year and thus gave the Academy a more 'savoury' choice if you like

The theme song was later used in the legendary TV show Bozo's Circus from 1961 to 2001.

This movie is considered to be one of the worst Best Picture Oscar winners. I honestly don't believe this to be so when I've seen other movies win Best Picture that I did not believe to be deserving. Yes High Noon is a wonderful movie and so is Singing in the Rain, but this movie truly makes you feel like you are at an actual circus and the story of the characters are simply wonderful.

@vadimzdonutube I didnt say that. I said I dont see why it's one of the worsts. I love the Oscars because it's one of few industry votes that the winners are picked by their peers. If the majority goes for one over the other, it happens. Singing in the Rain was an awesome film & yes it was better than the Greatest Show on Earth, but this is what the majority picked.
One of my all time favorite movies of all time!

Ok, I'm confused...WHY is this movie considered one of the "worsts"?! I loved it as a kid & seeing this for the first time makes me see all the though, hard work & effort put into this movie by the actors & film makers. I dont think movies today have a 10th of what Mr. DeMillle put into his movie! This was awesome & I think it deserved the Oscar & definitely more respect!!
By the way, I'm 24! I appreciate good movies & this is one of them!
