How do these switching systems work? Can anybody explain?

multibutton footcontroller/floor expression pedals controls rack via midi
each button potentially:
1) tells rack fx units which preset to change to via midi
2) tells midi fx loop switcher with pedals/non midi rack fx inserted in dedicated loops to turn loops off and on, thus including or bypassing fx/pedal(s) and any combination of them in signal path
3) selects which amp or preamp in a multi amp configuration is in use
4) changes amp channels via midi or switch jack
