I saluted my King and Queen, then my opponent. Then I threw the dagger down because my opponent did not have a back up weapon.

What is the guy on the left doing at the beginning?

@Eleatark a true great sword from the early Renaissance weighed five-six pounds and measured five-six feet in length. The armor is another 60-90 lbs, I believe. The way the weight is distributed makes the armor more bearable, while the sword is rather well balanced (ideally) and used in a manner that utilizes torque and momentum to maximum advantage.

You should examine techniques for the longsword (the german 4-ft long sword, not the modern definition). You'd find more success. Joachim Meyer's fetchbuch is a rather wonderful source for these.

@thoridar They are rattan.

Plastic sords XD

That just looked pretty beast, whatever the reason. Before reading, I had thought it was like "Nah, I'll just kill you with the big one..."

Looks like a cool way to spend time if your into this kind of sport but the investment into costumes and weapons seems too great for me :/

If your sword weigh more than 8 pounds, your cannot to move like these... dukes, mhm.

How did you learn this/get trained in this? How much does it cost? How long did it take you to get to your level?

Is there an SCA group in north eastern Missouri I could join, been wanting to get involved but living in a hick infested area leaves little outside bars and baseball.

@RowanNo1 They are called Great Swords. They are indeed real swords.
Wait is Palymar the crowned prince of the middle kingdom? I haven't joined the SCA yet but I live in the Middle Kingdom! Cool

@Aserox - pauldrons are not required and I don't wear them. Elbow are required and I have them under the red and white jacket I am wearing.
