It's time to move on. Our country, and all of us, need to move from a fossil fuel past to a renewable energy future.

The mood in Britain has turned very much against the Big Six energy companies. And it's not hard to see why. People are fed up with the unethical pricing, complex tariffs, awful customer service and the dire lack of investment in new sources of green energy.

It's become quite unbearable, self evidently. Even the government are calling on people to leave the Big Six.

People:Power can bring change to the energy sector -- when people join Ecotricity they vote with their energy bills - and the more that do so the better. Together we can harness the energy bills of Britain and direct them to a proper outcome - the creation of a Green, energy independent Britain -- a Green Britain.

How is the metal in them made, how is the metal transported, how are the parts shipped, how are they constructed, and how are they maintained?

Oh, climate change is happening--it's been happening for 4.5 billion years. Excuse me for not believing SUVs are heating up the earth when all it takes is one volcano eruption to completely change the climate for the next million years. I'll worry more about Yellowstone than whether or not my car is a hybrid.

All electricity generation systems require some amount of energy for their manufacture, construction and operation. It is important to consider how this energy requirement compares with the expected energy output of the system over its lifetime. If the former is almost on a par with the latter, the system is clearly not a sustainable choice (environmentally or economically). In terms of energy payback, wind farms do compare favourably with other power generation systems.

THE IGNORANCE IN THESE COMMENTS IS ASTOUNDING.

WAKE UP! North Sea oil production has been in decline since the turn of the century. Unlike Saudi Arabia, Britain is NOT a country that's rich in fossil fuels and Nuclear energy is the most expensive energy, period.

Ignore theories of climate change if you like ..What do you think will happen to our energy bills as we increasingly import finite fuels from further afield??

Renewables are about independence & a lower rate of consumption.

I need to add the fact that Mt Saint Helens was the greatest enviornmental disaster involving our atmosphere.

"Global Whining". Please people do your research. Every study has been rebuked by scientist with no agenda, that global warming is not a danger, & if anything @ all, a natural evolving process. Mt. Saint Helens is still the greatest natural disaster on record. Guess what happened to the damage done to the ozone layer as a result of the eruption. Give up? That's right overtime the ozone layer shows no signs of the deteriation that was present after the NATURAL disaster. Mine coal & drill for oil

If it's an effective means of energy I don't see why not.

But, again, read my reply to jcameroon69. It sounds like you have been struck with fear by what the media tells you to fear. There are plenty of articles on the safety of nuclear power (especially in comparison to other means of energy).

I do understand your concerns with storing radioactive material however.
