when you installed the tdi engine 1.9 did you used thesame tranny 4 spd? I will do this conversion on my 82 vanagon diesel with a 98 jetta tdi. don't know if I should geared the tranny or use an older air-cooled tranny which many claim will fit perfectly to the tdi engine.

hello there just wondering about the clutch, flywheel and physically mounting it to the gear box? ie is it the same bolt pattern? or is an adaptor plate needed? thanks.

Hi, You need to use the 1.6 diesel bellhousing if you are converting from petrol to diesel, also if your diesel engine is from a passat or golf or seat etc you must use the flywheel and clutch from the 16 diesel transporter, also you need the oil sump and oilpump from the transporter as its different in the cars, best to have a donor 1.6 transporter engine complete to source the bits you need.
Hope this helps a bit, good luck

was this easy to put in, in terms of electrics? i notice its got a throttle cable. the tdi has an electronic throttle right? i want to put a TD in a scirocco but dont want the electronic hassles. i dont mind how slow it is, it will be for economy.. cheers!

I used the normal 1.9td injection pump from an early golf, so no electronics to worry about, just the stop selanoid, a straight non electronic 1.9 td engine in a scirocco would go great, it certainly wouldnt be slow, go for it.
