Quick test of clean tones available from these two great heads. There is a slight amount of delay on here via a DD3 and that's about it. Again ropey playing playing, but good intentions:-). I will just point out that any distortion you can hear on this vid is coming from the camera Mic. Both clean channels are exactly that 'clean'. Any questions drop me a line.

  • I ordered my QR and after watching this I really like the clean. I have heard some bad reaplies to other vids about the clean.....sounds nice.

  • I think the Splawn's clean channel is very useable and can sound excellent. This vid is using humbuckers, so has less finesse. I've recently been messing with an EBMM Steve Morse and some of the pickup selections with the Splawns sound pretty lush. I hope you enjoy the QR, they really are great amps.

  • So, all things considered including price, which one would you keep if you had to choose? I'm assuming that your clean tone plays a large part in your amp choices.

  • After spending a good deal of time with both, I decided that the Splawn was the noise for me. The clean may not be so organic sounding, but overall I love the feel of the Splawn amps. So much so that I recently got me a Nitro, which is equally amazing. The Elmwood is now going to be up for sale so if anyone would like the Modena, feel free to drop me a line. It's set to run at European voltages. Cheers.

  • Great Vid! Are both amps run thru the same cab? Sounds like the Modena 60 (or was it the 90?) has a woody-er, more tonally complex sound..but then again it's like 50% more dough. Perhaps u could post a vid featuring the overdrive of both as well.

  • Yes indeed, both heads are running through my 2x12 which is a V30 and a Greenback. The Elmwood definitely has a more tweakable clean than the QR, but I still think the Sslawn holds its own. I think you may have found the other vid, so cool beans.

  • Yeah that second channel often gets overlooked. The two Splawns I run both have cleans, which I think are pretty cool tone wise. It really makes these amps a great package.

  • I must be a weird guy, because I love the clean on that Splawn. *shrug*

  • lucky you! wish i could compare those myself :)

  • What a great crystal clear tone from the QR!
