@rpr154 Tube amps are made to be cranked. I've owned a bunch from 5watts to 120watts...
Marshall, Soldano, 5150iii, Peavey, Bugera, all tube heads...
All tube amps use two stages to acheive full sound, pre amp tubes for saturation and power amp tubes for full round fatter sound added. If you don't crank em you don't get the full effect.
The 6L6 is used in 5150iii & Soldano I've owned. The EL84 used in the Class5 I've owned...EL34 used in my Marshall 1987x Each has differant round sound.

@JBL8863 sorry, I do have to disagree.. your sound is coming more so from your circut/ preamp. why do you think a mesa with 6L6's sounds different from an Engl "or any other amp'' with 6L6's. And the whole idea behind amps like this is that they are less powerfull. I do have this amp run through a mesa rec 2X12 and I don't feel its under powered at all. If i'm honest, I havn't played it along side a drum kit yet, but I have no doubt it will keep up just fine.

Hi Jordan im currently trying to figure out which head to get between a mesa transatlantic ta-15 or a mesa mini rectifier, I love clean tones and i don't play metal, im looking for clean tones along with some nice blues and overdrive but a versatile amp as well. Which of these two amps do you think suits my needs the best? thanks.

@RickRogersII I'd suggest getting the new 50 watt version 5150...this Mesa is under powered if you plan on using anything more than a single speaker cab...
I tried it through a 4X12 and it's horrible. The power tubes are also to fatter sounding vs what a Mesa is suppose to sound like...Lacks that loud bass and chainsaw crisp chime Mesa amps are signature for.
Had this been a 50 wat version and they kept the 6L6 tubes it would have been an incredable amp. Maybe next time if they read this.

The EL84 were all wrong for this amp...Bad idea for Mesa they should have stayed with 6L6 power tubes...This change gave the amp a british sound when cranked but SORRY Mesa if I wanted a cranked British sound I'd buy a Marshal which I use...
Mesa has always had it's own signature metal sound and changing the formular (power tubes) efffects the over all sound...This amp was almost a home run until they decided to do this.
It also over priced for 25w to sell this for $999. make it a 50w

@RickRogersII The Dark Terror has a tube driven effects loop. I haven't checked out any of the others in the Terror series but I'm sure that the DT has one dude.
-
Metallica tone?
-
@FriggnDiggn It also has an effects loop where the terror's do not.
-
@FriggnDiggn It's more comparable to a dual terror. It also comes with a footswitch and has switchable channels while the terror's do not. That's a huge thing right there, the price is still steep. I'm trying to figure out if I want this or the orange TH30 myself.

Is this amp loud enough to play decent sized gigs on 25 watt setting?
2:33 his eyes are terrifying. IT IS THAT PREAMP

I might wait to find one used in a year or so. $999.00? I can get a (like new) used triple rectifier for the same price. Still, the mini rec.does sound ballsy!
