2-11-10. pt.1 of 6. Stossel discusses Nobel-winning economicst F.A. Hayek's masterwork, "The Road to Serfdom." Written in 1944, but relevant today more than ever. This classic book warns of the dangers of a centrally-planned economy.

  • I just don't know about Paul Ryan, he talks about liberty, but supports the war on drugs... he's slimy, a wannabe Ron Paul.

  • @LibertarianLion He also voted for the $700 billion Wall Street bailout in '08.

  • Love Stossel, but if this guy Ryan voted for TARP and the AIG bailouts then wtf? He says one thing and does another then when called on it comes up with blah, blah, blah bullshit to justify it.. This is what got us here. We need to do something different.

He voted for the bailout? As opposed to what? Creating a depression which would result in New Deal levels of government expansion?

  • @coolerdoncooper

In a mostly free enterprise system, all bail outs are immoral. But the financial crisis didn't happen in a free enterprise system. It was a corporatist system. And the housing bubble, most importantly, was caused by the government itself. They used the government to create the recession and will blame the subsequent depression on capitalism and free enterprise, and create more government bureaucracies like FDR did.
