Notes: This multimedia work explores the movements of coastal phenomena - water, sand and plant-life - as I observed them on the shorelines of Oregon and California. My choreographic study was based on the holistic, qualitative methodology of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832), known as Goethean Science. Using this approach, I sought a deeper understanding of water, sand and plants through careful observation and reflection, in which I conjured essences, or seminal
gestures, from the phenomena to be embodied and revealed through choreography. My wish is to inspire others to seek a greater connection to the Earth by heightening awareness of the endlessly fascinating phenomena existing in our world and in us.
