Who is Jesus and what did he teach from the Islamic perspective? Do Muslims accept his divinity, his prophethood, his miracles, or the Gospels themselves? What about his mother Mary and the virgin birth? As part of "Islam Awareness Week" on the campus of George Mason University, this lecture seeks to answer these very important questions. Siraj Wahhaj, an American convert and prominent imam from New York, points out that although there are obvious differences between the Muslim and Christian views of Jesus, there are also many lesser-known similarities. Moreover, there are many noble beliefs and traditions about Jesus within Islam that are not even found in Christian texts. A fascinating lecture especially for those non-Muslims who are unfamiliar with the Islamic belief system. Learn exactly how Muslims love, respect and revere Jesus as a great prophet, messenger and man of God. Ideal for both Muslims and non-Muslims. Other topics discussed: did Jesus really teach the trinity, how are Muslims saved without a savior, Jesus as a believer in the Qur'an, prayer in Christianity and Islam, Muslims interpreting the Bible, what happens to those that never receive the message of Islam, and the Qur'anic chapter Al-Fatiha as a prayer for guidance. (Duration: 1 hour, 26 min)

  • How can Jesus Be a Prophet of Islam when the gospel message is very different to the message of the Quran. Jesus says; you have heard an eye for an eye, but i say unto you 'turn the other cheek' but then Muhammad reinstated an eye for an eye 500 years later. he forgave the adulteress. and there are many other of his gospel teachings that cannot be regarded as agreeing with the Koran.

  • @deanomcbeano That's because Muslims don't accept the current versions of the Gospels as being in their original form. According to Islam they were changed over time, whereas the Qur'an has remained exactly the same since its revelation.

  • I am a African American Muslim that had converted from Jehova Witness to Islam, If Christians can not accept or respect Islam, the lost of Jenna will be they"re lost. How can one not read the Qur'an and believe! I read the Bible many times, but the Qu'ran brings tear of joy to my eye's. Allahu Akhbar !

  • @Alicia9816 You are false. You want to believe in the true Jesus? Then believe in him as a PROPHET, not a GOD NOR a SON.

God is one and has no partner, no children, no mother, no father.

  • Allahu Akbar

The Prophet Muhammad always primarily sought forgivness for those that persecuted him. In the battle of Uhud, in the midst of the battle, which in those days was man to man you can only imagine the psychology of such battles, he sought forgivness for enemies that made him bleed. He forgave Hind, a lady who ate his uncles liver, he forgave the Meccans after 20 years of persecution. So when we truly put things into context we see things for what they really are.

''but i say unto you 'turn the other cheek'''

Yes, nice teachings, but when we actually put things into context we see no one turned the other cheek more than the Prophet Muhammad. Yes, he fought in wars, and dealt justice when called for, but his mercy was always the foremost attribute of his. Jesus was never in a position of power, he was never responsible for an entire community of people like the Prophet Muhammad, so he could not fight back even if he wanted to.

  • in the bible it never said some guy named mohuaomade waht ever his name is would come but in the torah they said that the mesiah the son of god would come

  • @IslamOnDemand Not only according to the Quran were they changed over time, but also according to all legitimate Biblical scholars.

  • @deanomcbeano your information is wrong parts of the quran were written dureing the time of muhammad they were complied dureing the reighn of uthman it was no where near 600 years later. and unlike the bible the quran has not changed one letter in over a 1000 years thats a proven fact

  • @IslamOnDemand why should anyone accept your claims that

1 the Bible has had some alterations (i will not totally disagree with this)

2 that the Qur'an's version of the events of Jesus life (such as the story of Jesus making a bird out of clay (which is in one of the apocryphal gospels)), is true.

The gospel we have was written down roughly 30-50 years after Jesus died of which some remains, while the Qur'an wasn't written until 600 years after this. why should we trust a second hand source

  • @deanomcbeano -- ALL the answers you may be looking for, any misconceptions you may think you have, any doubts about "Islam" and how all Prophets actually did preach "Islam" in the sense of surrender to One God alone, not a man, moon or monkey. From Adam, Noah, Moses, Abraham, Jesus to Muhammad ....

Every argument you may think you have against Islam, and the "Koran" ... and doubts about how Jesus & Muhammad were brothers -- go there ^

  • @deanomcbeano -- So my question to you is: (as the Koran/Quran, 2:140, argues)

God's Creed (the belief in Him; His 'reality') does not change with time. God is God.

So who did Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob (etc) worship -- as they came before Jesus' time? They worshiped ONE GOD. They were not Christians (obviously) and neither were they Jews (as they came before Moses too!).

What religion did those Prophets follow? It was Islam = surrender to the One & Only God. And this is what Jesus taught

  • @deanomcbeano -- My friend, I say in closing - as the Quran argues, in 2:135 (Chapter 2, v. 135):

"And they say: Become Jews! (And the Christians say) Become Christians! -- you will be rightly guided! قل بل ملة إبراهيم حنيفا Say: Rather, on the contrary, we will follow the Way of Abraham, who was (neither a Christian nor a Jew, but) a pure Monotheist! He worshiped the ONE GOD (not Jesus; Jesus wasn't even born yet). وما كان من المشركين And certainly he wasn't one who associated with God."
