I would rather had you explained how to calculate the whole formula in one. I have to find commission as well as one employee's overtime pay. All in one would be best but this is good. I can make it work, I hope anyways. I have never used excel but have to do this for my final paper in my excel class. Not having good luck here. :( Thank you.

yes simplified and well explained when using the if function this is great i so recommend, also gud showin another way using the minimum formula even though the main focus was using the if function.

The base pay formula can be simplified from:
=IF(E5>40,D5*40,D5*E5)
To this:
=MIN(40,E5)*D5
