72: Paris Boat Show, Ubica A0 Luxury Cat, Submarine Races

This year's Salon Nautique de Paris (Paris Boat Show) began on Saturday, December 1st and runs until December the 9th at the Porte de Versailles.

The event boasts an expected 300,000 visitors, and while it has traditionally been quite sail oriented, this year they have 1,200 exhibitors with 1,400 boats, 600 of which are motor-powered.

Next up: "Ubica A0" - A Proposed Hybrid-Powered Luxury Sports Catamaran is Catching the Attention of the Yachting World

The Spanish design team Ubica has recently announced what some are calling their most innovative project to date.

The Hybrid-Powered Luxury Catamaran blueprint that they have proposed, a sport lounge yacht called "Ubica A0," would have the ability to cruise at an average rate of 20-30 knots with a maximum speed of 50 knots.

The current estimated power output will be an impressive 2740 kilowatts. All of this energy will be generated from four bio-diesel compatible gas turbines combined with four AC-Propulsion Ac-150 EV Power Systems.

Next up, International Submarine Races - The 2007 International Submarine Races were held back on June 25 to the 29 in Bethesda, Maryland, and this marked the 9th running of the biennial sub-surface affair.

This unique event was originally created to challenge the engineering talents of high school, college, and independent students, inventors, and entrepreneurs.

A prerequisite of the races is that all designs must be man-propelled submarines that are sturdy, functional, and somewhat distinctive.

Since it's inception in 1991, entries have become increasingly innovative...not to mention faster.

During competition, all of the submarines must generate their power solely through the use of the crews physical strengths--relying mostly on their legs.
