These interesting birds look like a duck, walk like a duck, and sort of quack like them too, but they are actually "Coots"; brown and black water birds with bright white bills.

Enjoy the sights and sounds of a relaxing evening at the lake while sun is setting - the birds finish-up their day with some cleaning (preening) a few bites of under-water plants before dark.

  • Coots aren't ducks; they are members of the rail family. The scientic name for the Amercan Coot is " Fulicia Ralidae ". There is also the European Coot in western Europe.
