This video demonstrates on-demand tesselation of arbitrary meshes on current graphics hardware. Again, HistoPyramids are used to find triangles that need refinement, and redraws them at a higher tesselation level.

  • Wow! will this tesselation be used in a game soon?

  • new graphics cards will probably support this natively, but those game producers that are daring, can implement it via the above approach - if you have influence there, feel free to lobby for it. ;)

  • The gouraud shading is giving the polys away in the middle of the bunny. So you're getting great sillouets, but still ery geometric shading. Supposed that can be fixed by improing the shading, some tipes of textures, like a very tiled one, would still make the simpler geometry more evident.

  • really smart how it only tesselates the edges of the object you're looking at as those are the only things you'll be able to notice the jagged model bits for, as facing a jagged edge just looks like a normal edge (it has to be silhouetted to be seen)

  • genius! used only when needed!
